TAVA Wine Amphoras from Italy
AMPHORAS FOR WINE AGING & FERMENTING
In order for your wine to evolve and become as great as it can be, it needs oxygen - the right amount of oxygen. TAVA amphoras are specifically designed for wine and allow slow, consistent micro-oxygenation, similar to that of a new oak barrel, without imparting any flavors on a wine.
The TAVA amphoras are the only 100% clay amphoras that possess a unique ability to preserve wine freshness while amplifying your grapes' true essence. Winemakers who use these amphoras say they allow for the purest expression of their fruit and vineyard.
Wineries across Europe, including in traditional regions like Bordeaux and Burgundy, have embraced TAVA amphoras for crafting expressive and complex wines. One winery in Margaux, Chateau Durfort-Vivens has 150 TAVA amphoras which it uses to age its top red blends. By replacing neutral barrels, you can achieve better wood integration, more delicate tannins and enhanced fruit expression in your wines.
TAVA now offers the largest clay amphora in the world! Sizes include 320L, 750L and 1600L.
TAVA is a leader in the evolution of amphoras for winemaking. After years of research, in close collaboration with winemakers, TAVA has designed a more sophisticated amphora. The technical specs and quality of these amphoras can't be matched.
Hand-Crafted
Many amphoras are mass-produced and use low quality materials and automated processes. TAVA believes there is only one possible way to produce amphoras of outstanding quality: the hand-made, artisan way. The eye and hand of the craftsman are still irreplaceable.
Customized Porosity (Micro-Oxygenation)
You know how much oxygen your wine needs. We'll design your amphora so it's just right for your wine. Our unique clay mixture and custom-engineered oven allows us to get very precise with porosity. You can have the same level of micro-oxygenation as a new barrel, down to no micro-oxygenation at all. It's up to you.
Safe for Your Wine
The TAVA amphoras are pure and organic. No colors or stabilizers are added, which could risk contamination of the wines. As a result, no two amphoras will look the same. Each will be a slightly different color and have unique markings, also evidence of the hand-making process.
The Materials
The material used for TAVA's amphoras was developed through years of research and testing in close collaboration with oenologists and ceramic technicians. The following characteristics were achieved:
CONTROLLED POROSITY:
TAVA amphoras are fired at a very high temperature from 2192 °F to 2300°F. This allows the ceramic to be able to get an oxygen permeability that varies from levels slightly lower than those of wood to a total absence of micro-oxygenation.
EASE OF SANITIZING AND CLEANING:
Thanks to specific porosity levels, the penetration of the liquid inside the ceramic is superficial, permitting a great ease in cleaning and sanitizing.
THERMAL INSULATION HIGH CAPACITY:
Ceramic's thermal insulation properties are superior to those of cement, allowing an ideal insulation of the wine.
