La Sienne

French Oak Barrels Made in Burgundy

WINE BARRELS SOLD IN CALIFORNIA & OREGON EXCLUSIVELY BY VINETHOS

In Burgundy, it is the subtle differences from one vineyard to the next, or even row to row, that make the wines so enthralling. My ideal Burgundy barrel is one that does not distract from a wine's true nature and allows all those distinguishing characteristics to come through. Not just in Burgundy, but in California, Oregon and beyond, there are incredible Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vineyards that beg to be revealed through aging. The right barrel will show the personality of these wines, simply and gracefully.

La Sienne means "hers" in French. It is a tribute to the feminine side of winemaking as interpreted by the wine maker or drinker. My personal preference is for wines that tip-toe rather than stomp - those that have finesse and balance with a delicate touch of oak to enhance what is inherent.

The La Sienne barrels are made in Burgundy by local artisans who live and breath Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Forest Selections

Our barrels are made from two different forest selections:

Burgundy Forests - Selection from forests within the Burgundy region. Fine-grain wood for Pinot Noir or Chardonnay.

Vosges - A single forest selection of semi-fine grain wood. Ideal for keeping freshness in white wines.

Toasting Options

We like to keep it simple and true to the toasting style of Burgundy wines. We have two options:

Medium Long - Ideal for reds

Light Long - Ideal for whites, or reds that beg to be more fruit and site focused.

We also toast the barrels with an "open toast" which means there barrels aren't covered, and this avoids dominant toast or smoke flavors.
