La Sienne

Burgundy Wine Barrels

SMALL-BATCH BARRELS MADE IN BURGUNDY, EXCLUSIVELY FROM VINETHOS

In Burgundy, it is the subtle differences from one vineyard to the next, or even row to row, that make the wines so enthralling. To me, the ideal barrel for these wines does not distract from or overpower these nuances but allows the distinct personality of the wines to show through.

La Sienne means "hers" in French. I co-created this small range of barrels with a Burgundy cooperage to support the type of wines I love to drink — those with finesse, balance and a unique story to tell. The artisans toasting and assembling my barrels know Pinot Noir and Chardonnay intimately. Many live amongst the vines. They understand how to craft barrels that let the vineyard and variety speak for themselves.

In California, Oregon and beyond, there are also exceptional Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vineyards producing complex and compelling wines. If you are a winemaker looking to craft distinctive wines, I would love to help. La Sienne barrels are available in the U.S. in limited quantities only through VinEthos.

Forests

Our barrels are made from two different forest selections:

Burgundy Forests: Fine grain wood that comes from forests located within the Burgundy region. Ideal for Pinot Noir or Chardonnay.

Vosges: Semi-fine grain wood from the Vosges region in the northeast of France. Ideal for keeping freshness in white wines.

Toasting

True to the style of Burgundy, we have two options:

Medium Long: Ideal for red wines that benefit from softer oak tannins.

Light Long: Ideal for white wines and reds where the emphasis is on fruit and freshness.

We utilize an "open toasting" method to avoid strong toast or smoke flavors.
